It's things like this that draw ridicule for gamers who opt to play games on PC. Following Grand Theft Auto 4's much anticipated release on PC earlier this week, reports are springing up all across the internet regarding significant issues being encountered in the game. From being unable to start the game to missing textures to seemingly arbitrary limits on graphic settings, the situation appears to be nothing short of a disaster.

A quick gander at the official Steam forums shows that more than a few gamers are running into problems -- even to the point where Steam is offering refunds on a case-by-case basis, according to Voodoo Extreme. Rockstar has released a list of error codes (grab it here) in order to help identify the cause of certain errors. If you're like myself and not receiving error codes, but instead seeing awful framerates and missing textures (and by missing textures, I mean you see absolutely nothing but your car and the occasional floating road), there are some solutions -- but nothing's guaranteed to work, and they're not official fixes.

Rockstar's official response (via GTAGaming.com) casts the situation off as issues being experienced by "a small number of fans" and claims that they're working to solve the problems as "quickly as possible." In the meantime, anyone with problems is advised to contact support and check the support section of Rockstar's website.
