Microsoft Boasts Huge Black Friday Sales

With the biggest shopping day of the year in the books, Microsoft is doing its best to make sure everyone knows that the Xbox 360 did extremely well -- and a whole lot better than the PlayStation 3, thank-you-very-much. Microsoft estimates that there was a 25% increase over Xbox 360 sales during last year's Black Friday and claims they outsold the PlayStation 3 by a three-to-one ratio.

"We entered into the Black Friday sales period with cautious optimism, knowing that dollar for dollar, Xbox 360 offers more social entertainment value than any other console on the market," said VP Don Mattrick. "Record Black Friday sales in the U.S., coupled with our existing global install base of 25 million and an online community of more than 14 million Xbox LIVE members, have laid the groundwork for continued global sales momentum in 2009."

As you'd expect, the press release points to the 360's superior attach rate of 8.1 games per console and claims the success is largely due to "record-paced software sales" for games like Gears of War 2, Fable 2, and Lips.
